As the Green Code Project organizers, we are encouraged that
broadcasters, organizations and agencies in Canada and internationally
are beginning to support the code in practice and in principle. The
greencode idea began with Montreal’s Rapide-Blanc’s Sylvie Van Brabant
and Marie-France Côté and shortly thereafter attracted initial partners
Peter Wintonick of Necessary Illusions and Laura MacKay and Mitch
Rhodes from Vancouver’s Treadlight Media who were already working
towards "greener" medias. The National Film Board of Canada immediately
supported the greencode and came in as a main financial partner for the
first year of operation. Amsterdam-based Greenpeace International
Images, itself a major producer of media, are also supporting research,
saying that the greencode is the best idea to come across its’ desk in
a long time.
Word of the Green Code Project is spreading like greenfire around
the world, The following groups are already behind the initiative: Hot
Docs, EyesteelFilm, DOC, Ron Mann from Sphinx Productions, Greenpeace
Canada and The Montreal Film Group. Dave Sag and Australian-based
Carbon Planet also partners of the greencode. With other similar
organizations, they could perform official carbon audits to the highest
standards for those that wish to go that more complete route. The
International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam, Hot Docs, the Adelaide Film
Festival, the Green Film Festival in Seoul, Silverdocs in
Washington, Sunny Side of the Doc in Larochelle and the Sheffield
Doc/Fest recently supported greencode sessions and also putted some
greencode actions in place.
Vision Globale, our latest partner, is now working to obtain ISO
14001 environmental certification and will assist the Green Code
Project in further establishing a base of research on media footprints
at the level of the post-production process, and other technical and
creative processes.
