On carbon offsetting
Much resources can be found on carbon offsetting, but it still may be hard to know what to think in the end. The question is an important one: what do we know about carbon offsetting? Is our money really invested in worthy projects? This relatively new field is always evolving but isn't necessarily ruled by one international organization and so beware of greenwashing options.
The Gold Standard certification regroups 51 important environmental organizations like Greenpeace and the World Wildlife Fund, all agreeing on the scientific standard basis of the non-profit organization. They defined high quality carbon credits of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects and formed at a time when the subject needed much clarity.
This very important subject will be followed closely and updated regularly by our team; offsetting should come as a last resort, after you reduced your footprint (and reused what's around you). So it is better to offset but choose projects of quality and why not use some originality. In The Last Planet, Rapide-Blanc feature doc in production, the team has decided to make their own recipe; they plan to offset part of the film with Gold Standard projects, but they also want to invest part of the money in more local and direct projects. So look at the savings you can make by skipping a flight or hiring someone local, and redirect it towards offset projects.
